WHILST GRAZING THE INTERNET FOR ALL THINGS YELLOW I FOUND THIS BY A DESIGNER CALLED elizabeth mullaly WHICH I THOUGHT WAS BEAUTIFUL FOLLOW THE LINK TO CHECK OUT HER OTHER LETTERPRESS STUFF

Maillot Jaune BY e mullaly

Inspired by the Tour de France, the Maillot Jaune (yellow jersey) broadside features on the left; the names of the five men who have won the Tour five or more times. On the right, the title of Laterne Rouge is given to the rider who places last in the race. Laterne Rouge translated means Red Light, and refers to the red light at the back of a train’s caboose. Names listed are the Laterne Rouge title holders for years 2002 through 2006.

Why is it that Charlie Wegelius often gets overlooked when there is a feature on British Riders. Yes Cavendish and Wiggins are amazing and yes we still have to put up with the constant excuse making David Millar, but there never seems to be that much said about Charlie. Born 26 April 1978 in Espoo, Finland Charlie is still an English cyclist. He has signed with the Belgian Silence-Lotto team for 2009. Wegelius grew up in Yorkshire and had his first professional break as stagiaire for the ill-fated Linda McCartney Racing Team. During the 2005 World Championships in Madrid, Wegelius and Tom Southam chose to not ride to protect British leader Roger Hammond, but instead helped their professional team mates in the Italian team. Wegelius was forced to repay any costs associated with the event, which resulted in John Herety’s resignation and, in a statement, British Cycling announced that it would be ‘difficult to foresee’ Wegelius riding for the British or English national team again. Read the article here. Maybe this is why! If it is then it’s fucking stupid.

Wegelius made his Tour de France début in 2007, having previously ridden the Giro d’Italia and Vuelta Grand Tours. Never a winner, he has nevertheless made a great career out of being a reliable and strong ‘domestique’ or ‘gregario’ – a powerful rider who shepherds the team leader to success – most notably in the mountainous stages, where his ability to climb has been of great value in this role.

However Charlie will be riding in the Tour this year unfortunately in support of my all time least favorite rider Cadel ‘limpet’ Evans and I’ll be giving him all my support. Although I hope he doesn’t help him out too much.

Charlie’s Teams
2000–2002 Mapei-Quick Step

2003–2004 De Nardi

2005–2008 Liquigas

2009 – Silence-Lotto
