Cycling Shorts: The Tour de France and Cycle Racing in Britain in the 1950s, 60s and 70s

Today I went to see this with a couple of friends and it was great. Loads of old racers were there from the 60’s including Vin Denson and the afternoon was finished by a great documentary called Tour of Legends by Erik van Empel. It was amazing and if you get the chance to watch it do. It’s a very emotive film centred around Gino Bartali and the cyclists of the true heroic period of cycling before film came along in 1949. Erik van Empel’s film has everything from the yellowed magazines, scratched glass plates and damaged film footage, to a great genuinely funny cast of Belgian cyclists and some beautiful footage of legendary cyclists Gino Bartali, Louison Bobet and Jean Robic.
