Cabbage leaf under the cycling cap
Ive always wondered if this was an urban myth or not but it looks like Aldo has come up with the picture to prove it. Stage 11, 1935 Tour de France – the Belgian team tries the old “cabbage leaf under the cycling cap” trick to keep their heads cool. From left to right: Louis Hardiquest, Félicien Vervaecke, and Romain Maes. Maes would go on to win the stage, take the yellow jersey, and wear it all the way to Paris (cabbage leaf notwithstanding). From “Le Miroir des Sports” No.837, 18 July 1935.
