Fantastic news! We’ve got prizes for the winner of the La Gazzetta Della Bici Velogames Giro mini league. So far we have a genuine Bouyges Telecom long sleeve polo shirt. Unworn gift from Eddie Wegelius, brother of Charly Wegelius, who used to be the soigneur for them. Its white and still has its lables. As far as I know was never available to buy. This comes from out great friend Richard Mellen. Then we have a one-off specially made bottle of English Whiskey from David Fitt of The English Whiskey Co. with it’s very own unique GIRO LABEL and finally we also have this amazing offer and gift from my friend Mark who runs Veloiste – which puts together brilliant road cycling tours in France – also has a couple of beautiful holiday gites at his home, Les Chapelles. Mark’s said he’s willing to give away a long-weekend in the two-bedroom gite, which sleeps four people in stupendous comfort. Les Chapelles is between Bordeaux and La Rochelle and not far from Cognac on the west coast of France and the flat rolling countryside is brilliant for getting some fast miles in on the bike. There’s an indoor pool as well and food and wine are great. There are a few conditions, as you’d expect. Travel to and from Mark’s place isn’t included in the price, but you can get cheap flights to either Bordeaux on Easyjet or La Rochelle on Ryanair and Mark will pick you up and drop you off at the airport. He’ll get you some grub in for the weekend but you’ll probably want to go to the supermarket and grab some delicious fresh stuff of your own. Of course you’ll also need to find a mutually convenient weekend and it won’t be able to be in the high season I’m afraid as it’s all booked out this year and Mark only books out full weeks in the summer. So think September, October this year and February, March in 2011. The prize is valid until the end of March next year. However since I am going to win the prize none of you are going to see this stuff so I don’t even know why I’m writing about it. Here are some pictures of what we have so far and if anyone else wants to chip in it will make winning the league so much more fun. Entry for the league is over now though so if you haven’t entered tough shit.
