Giro d’Italia 2010 – Stage 7
Yesterday Rich Land said this was going to be the stage to watch and it definitely was that. I could spend the rest of this year talking about today. For a sport that is so heavily criticized and attacked from both inside and outside of the sport and for a race that has come under so much extreme criticism this year, Stage 7 of the Giro d’Italia through the Strade Bianche of Tuscany did a hell of a lot in my book to restore the image of cycling as a beautiful heroic sport. The current world champion Cadel Evans winning was like the icing on the cake and even I put my Italian flag down for a moment and clapped as he crossed the line. For a brief moment today cycling returned to a pre-war era of brave men and true spirit. Cycling is so beautiful because it breaths with the earth it is raced on and nowhere was that more apparent than on the ‘brutale ma meraviglioso’ farm tracks today. GIRO è VITA.
These pictures are the first I am beginning to see appear on the internet. They are from Team Sky’s official website which doesn’t credit the snaps to any one particular photographer so please click on this link to check out the full set.
